Planey (“we,” “our,” or “the App”), operated by Aggressive Hairy Fish, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information across our mobile and Wear OS applications, specifically addressing the use of location services, API integrations, and analytics.
1. Core Principles & Location Data Usage
Planey is designed to provide real-time flight tracking and weather reports for your immediate vicinity. To achieve this, the App requires access to location data.
- Location Permissions (GPS & Coarse Location): Planey requests access to your device’s location to determine the center point of your radar screen and query local coordinates.
- On-Device & Ephemeral Processing: Your location is processed locally on your device to center the circular radar UI.
- API Queries: To fetch live flight telemetry and weather updates, the App sends your approximate coordinates to our trusted, open-data third-party APIs (ADS-B.fi for flights and Open-Meteo for weather). This data is sent ephemerally to fetch local reports; we do not store, log, or track your location history on any servers.
- No Persistent Tracking: We do not track your location in the background when the App is closed, nor do we build profiles of your location history.
While we do not personally collect or store your private data, Planey uses third-party Service Providers to monitor app health, sync Wear OS data, and analyze usage patterns. These providers may collect technical, non-personally identifiable information:
- Google Analytics for Firebase / Firebase Analytics: We use anonymous analytics to understand how users interact with Planey (e.g., screen views, settings toggles, active sessions). This helps us improve the user experience and optimize battery usage. Google Privacy Policy
- Firebase Crashlytics: In the event of an app crash, a diagnostic report is automatically transmitted to help us identify and fix the bug. - ADS-B.fi, ADSBDB, and Open-Meteo APIs: These open-data feeds receive location coordinates or public aircraft identifiers (Mode S hex / callsigns) purely to return nearby aircraft telemetry, flight routes, aircraft photos (via airport-data.com), and weather data. They do not associate these requests with any personal identifiers.
3. Data Retention and Security
Since Planey operates on a local-first architecture and does not host external user databases:
- We do not store or retain any personal data on external servers.
- Any preferences, cached flight positions, and settings (such as manual location overrides) are stored exclusively in your device’s local storage (via Jetpack DataStore) and are deleted when the App is uninstalled.
4. Children’s Privacy
Our App does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our records.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date at the top.
